Overview

Mexican-American Dream Scholarship (MADS)

Organization: Council of Mexican Federations in North America (COFEM)

Background: Since 2008, COFEM and its affiliated federations, along with sponsoring partners, have awarded scholarships to outstanding students. The program has helped more than 400 students complete their degrees and has delivered over $400,000 in scholarships in recent years.

Purpose: To support brilliant and economically disadvantaged students of Mexican descent and promote the importance of higher education among first-generation and immigrant students.

Award Amounts:

  • $500 scholarships for students attending Community College

  • $1,000 scholarships for undergraduate students attending four-year College/University
  • Geographic Scope: Coachella Valley and Los Angeles area (CA, US)

    Eligibility:

  • Students of Mexican descent

  • First-generation college students (regardless of immigration status)

  • AB-540 recipients

  • DACA recipients

  • Undocumented students

  • Members of COFEM federations

  • Must demonstrate academic achievement

  • Must demonstrate financial need

  • Must demonstrate commitment to community involvement

  • Enrolled in undergraduate program at accredited four-year university OR two-year program at community college
  • Program Status (2025-2026): Application period has closed. Typically accepts applications each fall.
