About Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatohepatitis MASH, previously referred to as nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), is a severe form of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease that causes the liver to swell and become damaged. Progressive fibrosis (scarring), leading to cirrhosis of the liver, is the primary risk and occurs in 5 to 12 percent of people living with MASH. MASH is also associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes. A few common risk factors for MASH include high cholesterol, high blood pressure, overweight, high blood sugar, and metabolic syndrome. The presence of MASH with other risk factors such as older age and diabetes may increase the risk of progression to end-stage liver disease. Fund Definition Assistance with premium, copayment, coinsurance and deductibles related to: (a) prescription drugs(b) physician visits and diagnostic testing to monitor treatment. Assistance is also offered for transportation costs for treatment and monitoring. Grant Utilization HealthWell estimates that patients use an average of $3,100 during their 12-month grant period for this disease area. Household Income Limit500% of the Federal Poverty Level(adjusted for household size and high cost of living areas)Do I Qualify?HealthWell bases eligibility on an individual’s medical, financial and insurance situation. To qualify for HealthWell’s assistance, applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:You are being treated for Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatohepatitis.We can only assist with medications that have been prescribed to treat the disease/covered diagnosis.You will be asked to provide the Foundation with the patient’s diagnosis, which must be verified by a physician, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant’s signature. The patient must receive treatment in the United States.You have insurance and it covers your medication.To qualify for copayment assistance from HealthWell, you must have some form of health insurance (private insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, TriCare, etc.) that covers part of the cost of your treatment.Please note that in order to qualify for premium assistance through this fund, you must have Medicare Part B.Your income falls within our guidelines.HealthWell assists individuals with incomes up to 300-500% of the Federal Poverty Level. Treatments Covered*These products are not billable through HealthWell’s pharmacy card. Please submit requests for reimbursement through our paper claim process.The Foundation will refer patients without prescription insurance to other programs, such as manufacturer patient assistance programs.
