Overview

Mednick Faculty Award

Geographic Scope: Virginia (VFIC member institutions only)

Background: The Maurice L. Mednick Memorial Fund was created in 1967 in honor of a young Norfolk industrialist. The memorial was established by his family and business associates to perpetuate his name and their strong interest in higher education.

Purpose: To encourage the professional development of VFIC college teachers and improve their academic competence through fellowships for research and advanced study.

Eligibility:

  • Faculty teaching at one of the 17 VFIC member schools only

  • Must be nominated by their institution
  • Award Details:

  • Amount: Typical research awards are in the $2,250 range, as investments allow

  • Use: Professional development, research, and advanced study

    Bridgewater College, Emory & Henry University, Hampden-Sydney College, Hampton University, Hollins University, Mary Baldwin University, Marymount University, Randolph College, Randolph-Macon College, Roanoke College, Shenandoah University, Sweet Briar College, University of Lynchburg, University of Richmond, Virginia Union University, Virginia Wesleyan University, Washington and Lee University

    How to Apply

    Application Timeline

    1. Fall: Member schools are notified about the program and nominate one deserving faculty member to apply for funding
    2. By February 28: Nominated faculty member completes online form providing information about their proposed research and expenditures
    3. By March 31: Faculty and colleges are notified if nomination has been certified
    4. By July 31: Mednick funds are provided to the member colleges with the annual distribution
