McAllister Education Scholarship
Funder: Friends of the San Diego Public Library (FSDPL)
Background: The FSDPL established the John McAllister Memorial Library Scholarships in 2012 to honor John McAllister's decades of dedicated service to the FSDPL and San Diego Public Library System. John McAllister believed that library staff are the backbone of a successful library system.
Purpose: Funds toward the completion of a Certificate or Degree in Library Science, Information Management, or related subject area.
Geographic Scope: San Diego, California
Award Use: Certificate or Degree scholarships may be applied towards registration fees, tuition, books, or other related school expenses.
- Must be a full- or part-time employee of the San Diego Public Library
- Must be enrolled in a Certificate or Degree curriculum in Library Science, Information Management, or related subject area
- Must have already completed at least one course in their subject area
Eligibility
- Completed application form
- Letter of recommendation from a supervisor in the SDPL system
- Personal statement regarding a contribution or innovative idea the applicant has implemented in support of the library system
- Unofficial copy of most recent college transcript
- If selected, official transcript will be required for verification of enrollment prior to disbursement

Application Process
1. Complete the McAllister Education Scholarship application form
2. Submit a letter of recommendation from a supervisor in the SDPL system (can be uploaded with application or emailed to info@friendsofsdpl.org)
3. Submit a personal statement regarding a contribution or innovative idea the applicant has implemented in support of the library system
4. Submit an unofficial copy of the most recent college transcript
5. Grant permission for name and image use for publicity purposes (optional)
6. Sign the application certifying all information is true
7. Submit all materials by the deadline
