Master Beekeeper Program (MBP)

Educational certification program for beekeepers seeking advanced knowledge and credentials through testing and practical examinations.

Geographic Scope: North Carolina

Program Components:

• Journeyman Master
• Master
• Master Craftsman

Specializations:

• Born and Bred Queen Rearing
• Other subspecialties available

Testing Schedule (example from 2018):

• March: Spring Conference (New Bern)
• July: Summer Conference (near Asheville)
• October: Fall Regional Testing
• Spring: Joint meetings with South Carolina

Test Administration:

• Friday sessions: 1pm-4pm (no written tests after 2pm)
• Saturday sessions: 9am-12pm (no written tests after 10am)
• Journeyman and Master practical exams: concurrent with written tests

• "Ask the Experts" panel discussion

Application Process

To Register for Exam:

1. Email mbp@ncbeekeepers.org with:
   • Your name
   • Test you plan to take (Journeyman or Master)
   • Purpose: for planning (materials, space, and practical exam scheduling)

• Attend Advanced Review session (covers exam expectations and preparation tips)
• Attend "Ask the Experts" panel for specific questions
• Topics reviewed: Colony sociology and behaviors, Hive Products (honey, wax, propolis, pollen), Pollination and Plants
• Past review topics: anatomy, pests, diseases, anatomical systems, glands, pheromones, colony communication

Exam Format:

• Written examinations
• Practical examinations for Journeyman and Master levels
• Registration recommended in advance for planning purposes
