Mary Lien Anderson Elementary School Fund (MLAESF) Grant Program

Geographic Scope: Cambridge, Wisconsin - Cambridge Elementary School

An endowment-type fund designed to address both short-term and long-term needs of Cambridge Elementary School through grants and gifting recommendations. The fund is distributed at least once each year.

Focus Areas:

• School programming
• Books and educational materials
• Items that cannot be funded through the school's regular budget
• Educational enrichment (NOT normal operating expenses)

Background: Named after Mary Lien Anderson, a teacher with 43 years of teaching experience, including 30 years in the Cambridge School District (1976-2001). She taught all eight grades in the one-room Smithback Schoolhouse before moving to teach first grade in Oak Creek, WI, and eventually returning to Cambridge.

Eligibility:

• Cambridge Public Schools
• Tax-exempt public charities serving the school

Process: Annually or as needed, a committee composed of elementary school teachers makes gifting recommendations and/or grant requests to the Executive Board of the Cambridge Foundation. The Foundation then distributes income from the fund.

How to Apply

1. Elementary school teachers submit gifting recommendations and/or grant requests
2. Requests are reviewed by a committee of elementary school teachers
3. Committee forwards recommendations to the Executive Board of the Cambridge Foundation
4. Foundation reviews and makes distribution decisions
5. Distributions made to qualifying tax-exempt public charities and/or Cambridge Public Schools
