Mary F. Kessler Fund Grant

The Mary F. Kessler Fund Grant supports transformative projects in Tryon and Landrum, enhancing community aesthetics and culture. Funded initiatives include the Children's Theater Festival and local beautification efforts. Organizations eligible for grants include 501(c)(3) nonprofits and public school systems serving Polk County. However, the fund does not support fundraising events or political activities. This grant reflects Mary Kessler's commitment to her community, ensuring her philanthropic legacy continues to foster local development and education.

We encourage organizations to submit this Letter of Intent and work on applications well in advance of the published deadline so we can provide you with timely information and guidance.
Mary Kessler's fond connection to the Tryon and Landrum communities and her desire to have a permanent philanthropic role in them led her to create this generous endowment fund. Kessler grants support projects in Tryon and Landrum that result in physical and scenic improvements, development, or beautification, as well as those with cultural, intellectual, and educational benefits. Past Kessler awards have funded the Children's Theater Festival's "Super Saturday," planting noble trees at Harmon Field, restoration of the historic Landrum Railroad Depot as a performance venue, and O.P. Earle Elementary School's Community Arts Evenings, which involved local artists in the arts education of its students and the public.

Eligibility

Kessler grants support projects in Tryon and Landrum.Which organizations are eligible for grants?501(c)(3) nonprofits, public school systems, s and units of government that serve the citizens of the community centered in Polk County. Regional organizations that serve our community but are based outside of Polk County, NC or Landrum, SC should contact the Foundation for guidance about eligibility.

Ineligibility

Grants may not fund fundraising projects, events,  or solicitations of any kind. The Foundation prohibits funding of political parties, candidates, and lobbying efforts.Grants may not fund expenses already incurred. In emergency situations requiring critical work to be completed before the completion of a grant cycle, organizations may be eligible to apply for "emergency reimbursement grants."
