Overview

Marvin A. Andrews Scholarship/Internship

Purpose: Honors the dedicated years of service by Marvin Andrews, former City Manager of Phoenix. Designed to financially assist Arizona students in public administration, public policy, or undergraduates working toward their Masters of Public Administration degree who aspire to a career in local government management.

Eligibility:

  • Masters of Public Administration or Masters of Public Policy students

  • Undergraduates in political science, planning, sustainability programs, and honors colleges

  • Attending: Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, University of Arizona, or Grand Canyon University

  • Master students must be enrolled in graduate program or have completed their first semester

  • Undergraduate students must have completed at least 72 hours by December

  • Those completing fall semester in time to graduate also eligible
  • Award Includes:

  • $4,000 scholarship

  • $6,000 paid summer internship stipend with participating Arizona city, town, or county

  • Registration and lodging to ACMA Winter Conference

  • Complimentary year of ACMA Student Membership
  • Internship Details:

  • Paid summer internship position with host city, town, or county

  • Funds include matching contributions from host organization

  • Provides professional experience and training in Arizona local government

  • Recipient must be able to accept summer internship in year awarded

  • Recipient must be able to travel depending on location
  • What ACMA Scholarship Recipients Demonstrate:

  • Strong commitment to pursuing career in public administration at local level in Arizona

  • Willingness to accept challenges of vigorous academic program

  • Desire to succeed in professional and/or personal endeavors

    To Apply:
    1. Visit the scholarship application site
    2. Submit application for both Andrews & Esser Scholarships through same portal
    3. Selected Andrews Scholarship recipient will interview prospective cities, towns, and counties that have submitted applications to host the intern

  • Cities, towns, and counties can submit applications to host the Andrews intern

  • Details for host applicants available at application site
  • Note: Students not selected as scholarship recipient will have opportunity to interview with hosts not selected by scholarship recipient (if available). Non-selected students will be notified in March.
