Marine Thrift Shop Okinawa Grant Program

Overview: MTS provides grant funding to support qualifying organizations' operations and initiatives. The Board of Directors meets monthly on the third Thursday to review and vote on grant applications. In 2023, MTS donated over $110,000 to organizations in and around Okinawa.

Key Requirements

• Minimum Timeline: All requests for funding must be submitted no less than 35 days prior to the requested date of funding
• Application Deadline: Submit applications no later than the second Thursday of each month to be considered at that month's Board meeting
• Account Requirement: Individual requesting the grant must have a Gmail account
• Status Notification: Applicants will receive an email within 30 days confirming receipt
• Decision Timeline: Board of Directors meets on the third Thursday of every month
• Late Requests: Contact Executive Committee directly at mts.oki.exec@gmail.com if funding is needed within 35 days window; they will determine options

Important Notes

• Applications must be submitted prior to the intended date of required funds and prior to any incurred expenses
• Employees at MTS are not aware of grant status until approval or denial
• MTS is a member of and contributes to grants awarded by the American Welfare and Works Association (AWWA)

Recent Grant Recipients (2023)

Funded organizations include schools (Ryukyu MS, Bob Hop ES, Kadena HS, Kubasaki High School, etc.), military units (3D HQBn Chaplain, Single Marines Program, IIIMEF), youth organizations (Cub Scout Pack 109, BSA Troop 109-G), community groups (Okinawa Diplomats Futbol, NPO/ARU Halfway House), and various other community initiatives.
