Maricopa Community College (MCC) Scholarship

Funder: Tempe Diablos Charities Inc.

Geographic Scope: Tempe, Arizona

Award Amount: $2,000 per year (new and continuing scholarships)

Purpose: Promote excellence among Tempe's top high school students and help young adults improve their opportunities and the communities in which they live.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

Be a graduating senior from any high school within the Tempe Union High School District OR be a graduating senior who lives in Tempe, Arizona and attends a publicly funded, accredited Arizona high school

Be admitted as a full-time student (24 credit hours per academic year) at a Maricopa County Community College

Be classified as an Arizona resident for tuition purposes

Meet one of the following:

- Have a minimum 3.0 grade point average
- Be ranked in the top 25% of their graduating class
- Have an SAT reasoning score of 1040 or higher
- Have an ACT score of 22 or higher
- Show extracurricular involvement in school and/or community; strong leadership abilities and communication skills

Demonstrate potential to continue with college career by remaining in good standing and maintaining all scholarship criteria

Financial need is not a requirement but may be considered

Ineligible: Members of the Tempe Diablos, their spouses, children, grandchildren and/or dependents

Renewal

This scholarship may be renewable for up to 7 consecutive semesters if all criteria are maintained and funding is available. Students must submit each semester's transcript to scholarships@tempediablos.org to be considered for renewal.

Application Process

#### Required Materials (submit in this order)

1. Complete the Tempe Diablos Scholarship application form
2. Attach a typewritten document (1-2 pages, double-spaced) describing:
- Personal and family background
- Education and career goals
- How this scholarship will assist in achieving education and career goals
- Any unusual personal expenses or income situations that make it difficult for you and your family to contribute to the cost of your education
3. Attach a separate document listing:
- Extracurricular activities
- Honors
- Positions of leadership
- Volunteer/community service (include years of involvement)
4. Attach a copy of high school transcript, which includes:
- Grades from most recently completed semester
- Cumulative GPA
- Class percentile ranking
- (Unofficial copies are acceptable)
5. Attach one (1) letter of recommendation from a professional who can attest to the potential for success in academics and character of the applicant
6. Optional: Attach an Academic Budget Form to have financial need considered
