Major Community Project Grant

Geographic Scope: Flathead Valley area and surrounding region (includes projects slightly outside Whitefish city limits)

Program Description: The Major Community Project Grant Program provides substantial funding for significant community projects that have major impact. Projects funded include infrastructure improvements, facility development, and large capital projects.

Funding Criteria: Projects should be:

  • Significant community assets

  • Grassroots efforts with community support

  • Infrastructure or capital projects

  • Aligned with community needs
  • Examples of Funded Projects:

  • $25,000 to Whitefish School District for Center for Sustainability and Entrepreneurship

  • $50,000 to Miracle League of NW Montana

  • $117,500 to Montana Veterans Home for wheelchair-accessible bus

  • $25,000 to Project Whitefish Kids for playground and pavilion at Smith Fields Youth Sports Complex
  • Program History: As of 2018, the Foundation had presented 15 major grants since the program began in 2010, awarding a total of $418,600.

    Funding Source: The Circle of Giving supports this program. The Circle of Giving consists of donors who contribute a minimum of $5,000 annually, with some giving as much as $40,000.
