Overview

Nessling Foundation’s General Call The Nessling Foundation offers funding for innovative projects and active researchers that enable or support sustainability transformation that protects natural systems. Natural systems are systems formed by other species and their habitats. These systems support all life, including human societies. Natural systems are threatened by the crossing of planetary boundaries. In the general grant call, we are looking for innovative projects and active researchers and actors that enable or support sustainability transformation that protects natural systems. Implementation Projects Grants for implementation projects where research is put into practical use through cooperation between the producers and users of knowledge. What kind of work will the Nessling Foundation support in the autumn call? In the midst of the current ecological crisis, society and its various sectors will have to take into consideration both the capacity of our planet and humanity’s dependence on natural systems. This is called a sustainability transformation. During sustainability transformations, society as a whole and all of its sectors – politics, people, nature, urban and rural, ways of thinking – undergo a transition. Natural systems, culture, the economy, energy solutions, food systems, cities and the well-being and functioning of citizens are undergoing a simultaneous transformation. The Nessling Foundation offers funding for innovative projects and active researchers that enable or support sustainability transformations that protect natural systems. Natural systems are systems formed by other species and their habitats. These systems support all life, including human societies. Natural systems are threatened by the crossing of planetary boundaries. The research or project does not have to address all aspects of sustainability transition. Rather, the applicants need to understand how their research contributes to protecting natural systems and understanding and implementing the necessary transformation. Applicants are asked to concretise this in their application, for example by tying their project to a particular socio-ecological system and the securing of planetary boundaries. The Nessling Foundation particularly supports projects that promote cooperation between different disciplines or sectors and the transfer of knowledge and information to end-users. We. fund multidisciplinary projects as well as projects dealing with a specific disciplines, and basic and applied research. It is important that the applicant understands the role of their research in solving environmental challenges as well as the societal relevance of the project and is able to express this. We do not require that the projects relate to Finland only, because the sustainability transformation must be carried out on a global scale. However, the results of the projects that receive funding must be applicable to decision making in Finnish society and support Finland’s environmental goals.
