Technical and Trade Scholarship

Program Overview: This scholarship recognizes Maine students committed to further training in technical or trade fields and supports their transition into their profession.

Geographic Scope: York, Cumberland, Androscoggin, Aroostook, Franklin, Oxford, Penobscot, Piscataquis, or Somerset County, Maine

Program Details:

  • Part of the Maine Merits Scholarship Program

  • Total scholarship fund of $12,000 (doubled from previous year)

  • Multiple scholarships awarded with minimum of $1,000 each

  • Award may be used to purchase tools or equipment to support the transition into their profession
    • Eligible Trade Fields

    • Plumbing
    • Carpentry
    • Electrical work
    • Aesthetics
    • Automotive/Autobody
    • And other technical/trade fields

      Eligible Educational Paths

    • 2-year college programs
    • 4-year college programs
    • Apprenticeships
    • Post-secondary certificate programs
    • Direct entry into workforce in chosen trade

      Eligibility Requirements

    • Must be a current or aspiring technical or trade student
    • Must reside in York, Cumberland, Androscoggin, Aroostook, Franklin, Oxford, Penobscot, Piscataquis, or Somerset County, Maine
    • Must have been accepted into a 2 or 4-year college, apprenticeship, post-secondary certificate program, or be directly entering the workforce in their chosen trade

    Application Requirements

    Required Materials:
    1. Essay or Video Essay
    - Minimum 300 words (essay format)
    - OR 3-minute video essay
    - Must explain: Your career goals in Maine

    2. Letter of Recommendation
    - One letter required
    - Must be from: Teacher, advisor, mentor, or instructor
