MAF Scholarships

Geographic Scope: Michigan

Eligible Students:

  • Graduate and undergraduate architecture students

  • Currently pursuing or admitted to architectural degree programs at Michigan institutions:

  • - University of Michigan
    - University of Detroit Mercy
    - Lawrence Technological University
    - Kendall College
    - Andrews University

    Program Description: MAF offers scholarships for students pursuing architectural education at Michigan colleges and universities. Multiple scholarship programs are available, including named scholarships:

    Named Scholarship Programs:

  • Richard M. and Sidney K. Robinson Scholarship: Awarded to University of Michigan undergraduate architecture student who aspires to a career combining citizenship and artistic roles (offered in cooperation with Huron Valley Chapter of the American Institute of Architects)

  • Paul Stachowiak & Integrated Design Solutions Scholarship: For outstanding graduate students

  • Professional Concepts Insurance Agency Scholarship: For architecture students

  • AIA Michigan President's Scholarship: For outstanding students

  • Katherine and John Banicki Scholarship: Awarded annually to Michigan graduate architecture student based on academic and community involvement achievements (established 2015, self-funded by MAF's annual Backus Bash)
  • Application Requirements:

  • Personal statement describing interest, experience, and plans related to architecture

  • Information on leadership and extracurricular activities

  • Design portfolio
  • Award Announcement: Late April annually

    Mission: To make architectural education more affordable and recognize academic efforts and promise of rising architectural professionals

    2. Deadline: Typically mid-April (specific date announced when application opens)
    3. Award Announcement: Late April annually
    4. Required Materials:
    - Personal statement describing:
    - Interest in architecture
    - Experience in the field
    - Plans and goals related to architecture
    - Leadership and extracurricular activities
    - Design portfolio demonstrating:
    - Thinking and design capabilities
    - Production quality
    - Variety of design outputs
    - Understanding of project objectives
