Evans Graham Preservation Award

Geographic Scope: Michigan

Program Description: Created in 1998 to honor the memory of preservation architect David Evans, FAIA, MAF's Evans Graham Preservation Award provides financial assistance and recognition to groups or individuals seeking to preserve historic Michigan architecture. The award was renamed in 2015 to honor Ralph and Jeanne Graham, co-founders of the award, and their leadership and contribution.

Award Details:

  • $20,000 grant per award

  • Granted annually by a jury based on the merits of the project

  • Recognizes preservation and rehabilitation projects of historic Michigan architecture
  • Eligible Activities: Projects that preserve, restore, and rehabilitate historic buildings and architecture in Michigan

    Example Project: 2023 recipient - Detroit Sound Conservancy received $20,000 for the preservation and rehabilitation of The Blue Bird Inn, a historic jazz club on Detroit's Old West Side, to help complete restoration of the building's facade, masonry, and exterior envelope.
