Overview

Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP)

Administrator: DC Bar Foundation

Purpose: Provides interest-free, forgivable loans to help DC's legal aid attorneys pay down their educational debt.

Eligibility: DC legal aid attorneys working in public interest law

Award Structure:

  • Up to $12,000 per year in interest-free, forgivable loans

  • Funds are forgivable (do not need to be repaid)
  • Geographic Scope: District of Columbia

    Target Population: Legal aid attorneys with student loan debt

    Key Information:

  • Provides enrollment logistics and eligibility requirements guidance

  • Program tracks student loan repayment plans and updates (PSLF, SAVE plan, OBBB Act)

  • Available to both individual attorneys and through employer organizations

  • Employers can support recruitment and retention of dedicated staff by helping employees understand LRAP benefits
