Overview

Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship

Award Amount: Full four-year tuition to an Indiana college or university of recipient's choice, plus $900 yearly stipend for required books and equipment

Geographic Scope: Indiana (Starke County, Miami County, and Fulton County communities within Northern Indiana Community Foundation service area)

Eligibility:

  • High school graduating seniors

  • Must attend an Indiana college or university

  • Selection based on:

  • - Academic performance
    - Volunteer and paid work
    - School activities and honors
    - Essays

    Selection Process:

  • Applications reviewed "blind" (identities removed)

  • Five finalists selected for final review

  • Finalists write impromptu essay and participate in personal interview with Scholarship Committee

  • Committee narrows field to one nominee

  • Final selection made by Independent Colleges of Indiana, Inc. (ICI)
  • Background:
    Result of statewide Lilly Endowment initiative to help Hoosier students reach higher levels of education. Indiana ranks among lowest states in percentage of residents over age 25 with a bachelor's degree.

    Application Process

    1. Application Timing: Applications due in September (changed from spring semester to identify scholars earlier)
    2. Submission Format: Online application through county-specific scholarship pages
    3. Application Materials Required:
    - Academic performance documentation
    - Volunteer and paid work history
    - School activities and honors information
    - Essays
    4. Finalists Requirements:
    - Write impromptu essay
    - Participate in personal interview with Scholarship Committee
    5. Final Selection: Finalists' applications submitted to Independent Colleges of Indiana, Inc. (ICI) for final selection
