Background The General Assembly of North Carolina enacted Senate Bill 852 [Session Law 2004-189], which established the North Carolina License To Give Trust Fund and a 15 member Commission. Purpose of Grants and Relevancy Grants will be awarded based on their relevancy to the powers and duties outlined in NC General Statute § 20-7.6. “Awarding grants-in-aid to non-profit entities to conduct education and awareness activities on organ and tissue donation and advance care planning.” The purpose of the education and awareness activities on organ and tissue donation is to increase and/or improve organ, tissue and eye donation in North Carolina. The purpose of education and awareness on advance care planning is to encourage thoughtful end-of-life decisions including organ and tissue donation as a significant consideration in this process of advance care planning in North Carolina. Grants will be considered for but are not limited to the following areas as they relate to the purposes stated above: Implementing general education and community outreach.Targeting education to multicultural populations.Supporting partnerships committed to organizational and community change.Collaborating between agencies and organizations that develop statewide initiatives for change.Networking with other foundations, trusts, and commissions to enhance the overall outcomes of this funding. Funding It is expected that approximately $300,000 will be available each year for grant-in-aid awards. There will be one grant award cycle per calendar year.

Grant Proposals will be accepted from North Carolina based non-profit organizations meeting the grant criteria and all provisions of North Carolina General Statute § 143-6.2Types of eligible non-profit entities might include but are not limited to Organ Procurement Organizations, Tissue Banks, Eye Banks, Coalitions on Donation, Advance Care Planning and End-of-Life Organizations, Schools, Colleges and Universities, Civic Organizations, Faith Communities, Museums and Libraries.
