LGBT Giving Circle Grants Projects and activities outlined in the grant request need to align with the mission and scope of the Giving Circle, which is to support organizations that serve, are inclusive of, or are allied with the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community to enhance and strengthen our region. The LGBT Giving Circle The LGBT+ Giving Circle at the Community Foundation was created in 2011 by a group of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals and allies. Through grants from its LGBT Fund for Greater Rochester, the Giving Circle hopes to bridge diversity and cultivate community.

Eligibility

Organizations in the eight-county region served by the Community Foundation (Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Orleans, Seneca, Wayne and Yates counties) must be classified by the Internal Revenue Service as a 509(a)(1), 509(a)(2), or, under certain circumstances, a 509(a)(3) public charity under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. This can include service, charitable, faith-based, educational, and government organizations and institutions.The nonprofit must have — or be in the process of developing — a nondiscrimination policy that is inclusive of LGBT+ people.

Ineligibility

The Community Foundation’s competitive grants program generally does not fund special events, fundraising campaigns, religious activities, endowments, buildings (except for historical assets), or debt retirement.
