Overview

Ledford Scholars Award

Overview: The Appalachian College Association's Ledford Scholars Program provides financial support to undergraduate students to work on significant research projects during summer or fall terms.

Geographic Scope: Available to students from ACA member institutions (18 participating institutions in 2026)

Eligibility:

  • Undergraduate students

  • Enrolled at ACA member institutions

  • Engaged in significant research projects
  • Award Details:

  • Financial support provided to students

  • Students work on research projects with faculty mentors at their home institutions

  • Upon completion, scholars provide video presentations of research findings

  • Video presentations are recognized and made available on ACA website
  • Focus Areas: Interdisciplinary research including biology, chemistry, environmental science, engineering, psychology, criminal justice, business, nursing, literature, and other fields

    Background: In 2026, 45 students from 18 ACA institutions were selected as Ledford Scholars
