Overview: The Louisville Bar Association presents multiple annual awards honoring members of the legal community who demonstrate service, leadership, and excellence in the profession.

Award Categories and Criteria:
Justice Martin E. Johnstone Special Recognition Award
Description: The highest recognition bestowed upon an LBA member for outstanding participation and partnership within the legal community. Recipients have made significant impact in the Louisville community through professional or volunteer efforts and exemplify what it means to be a lawyer.Judge Benjamin F. Shobe Civility & Professionalism Award
Description: Recognizes individuals who have consistently demonstrated adherence to the highest standards of civility, honesty and courtesy in dealings with clients, opposing parties and counsel, the courts and the general public. Demonstrates sustained excellence through leadership in the profession.Robert & Frank E. Haddad Jr. Young Lawyer Award
Description: For trial lawyers (criminal or civil) practicing less than 5 years. Nominees must demonstrate ability to handle complex or unusual trials or appeals and have garnered respect and admiration of judiciary and colleagues.Judge of the Year Award
Description: Presented to a member of the judiciary showing judicial integrity and professionalism. Nominees have contributed to community through volunteering in civic organizations, established reputation for integrity, scholarship and professionalism.Paul G. Tobin Pro Bono Service Award
Description: Recognizes LBA members who have unselfishly given time to improve quality of society through legal work. Worthy nominees helped deliver legal services to the disadvantaged through pro bono programs or causes.Daniel M. Alvarez Champion for Justice Award
Description: Given to lawyers demonstrating strong devotion to serving underrepresented individuals or groups by giving legal voice to those who would otherwise be voiceless. Includes Hispanic/Latino communities, documented and undocumented immigrants, LGBTQ community, incarcerated juveniles, and indigent criminal defendants.Judge Richard A. Revell Family Law Award
Description: Presented to attorneys at the forefront of new developments in family law practice. Recipients have exhibited dedication to families and children through work inside and outside courtroom, made significant contributions to public service in family law, and demonstrated innovation.Award Presentation: Awards presented at LBA Annual Luncheon (typically November)
