Larry and Joan Kelly Scholarship

Overview: The Larry and Joan Kelly Scholarship Fund was established in 2019 to support local students pursuing a healthcare degree with a focus on behavioral health.

Focus Areas:

  • Behavioral health education

  • Healthcare degrees with behavioral health focus
  • Geographic Scope:

  • Flagler County

  • Putnam County

  • St. Johns County

  • Volusia County
  • Eligible Applicants:

  • Students pursuing behavioral health degrees (Daytona State College or St. Johns River State College)

  • SMA Healthcare employees pursuing education in behavioral health

  • Must demonstrate commitment to the field and SMA's mission
  • Award Details:

  • Fall Semester: One award for Daytona State College student, one for SMA Healthcare employee ($1,500 each)

  • Spring Semester: One award for St. Johns River State College student ($1,500)

  • Total: Three awards of $1,500 annually
  • Special Incentives:

  • Donations of $500 or more received through October receive $100 designated to the fund

  • Donors receive a special edition teddy bear

  • Another bear given to a child at the WARM Program
  • Established: 2019 with lead gift of $10,000 from the Perryman Family Foundation

  • Academic standing

  • Financial need (for student applicants)

  • For employee applicants: length of service, personal commitment to helping others
  • Award Timeline:

  • Fall semester awards announced by August

  • Spring semester awards announced by December
