Kathy’s Kids Scholarship Grant

The Kathy’s Kids Scholarship, established in honor of Kathy Smith, provides educational support for young women in the Longview area facing challenges. Administered by the East Texas Communities Foundation, this scholarship aims to empower graduating seniors to pursue their educational goals. With a focus on financial need, applicants must be from participating high schools and demonstrate resilience in overcoming adversity. Scholarships of $1,500 are available and may renew annually, emphasizing the foundation's commitment to fostering educational opportunities.

Note: East Texas Communities Foundation has one general application that utilizes a matching tool that asks a series of questions and will match you to all the scholarships you qualify for (students majoring in visual arts, art history, music, music education, theater or dance should also use the Arts Matching Tool in addition to the General Matching Tool). Once you are “matched” you will need to read through the scholarship descriptions, double check you are eligible for the scholarship and complete the general application.
You only need to fill out the application one time and it will pre-populate all the scholarships you qualify for. If an application has an additional essay or needs additional materials uploaded (FASFA, acceptance letter, etc.) you will be directed to those sections on the individual application.
Scholarships
East Texas Communities Foundation administers a variety of scholarships that have been established by generous individuals to assist students with their educational pursuits. Each scholarship expresses a deep belief in the power of education to help young people achieve their dreams.
This scholarship fund is established in honor of Kathy Smith. Born in 1962 with a rare genetic condition known as Seckel Syndrome, Kathy has spent her entire life unable to speak, but communicates very well through body language and audible sounds. This scholarship fund honors the life of Kathy Smith by providing educational scholarships to young women in the Longview area who, like Kathy, have faced challenges.
