Overview
The Kate Stokes Memorial Award, established in memory of CLP Programme Officer Kate Stokes, offers a $5,000 grant annually to an exceptional team of CLP alumni. Focused on supporting young conservationists, the award emphasizes teams demonstrating passion and commitment to conservation efforts. The Conservation Leadership Programme (CLP), initiated in 1985, provides vital support for applied biodiversity projects in less developed countries, helping young leaders gain practical conservation experience.
NOTE: This award is offered annually to an exceptional team of CLP alumni.
What We Do: CLP remains the sole programme offering the full suite of support to early-career conservation leaders, including funding, training, mentorship and continuous peer-to-peer support through an extensive global alumni network.
The Kate Stokes Memorial Award is an additional grant set up by the Kate Stokes Memorial Trust to support teams of CLP alumni in memory of Kate Stokes. On 19 February 2006, Kate Stokes and her partner died tragically while hiking in the Picos de Europa mountain range in Spain. Kate worked as Programme Officer for CLP from 2002 to 2006. She was instrumental in developing the programme and helping thousands of young conservationists gain experience in practical conservation.
This $5,000 award is offered annually to an exceptional team that has previously received CLP funding. There is particular emphasis on teams that demonstrate strong passion, enthusiasm and a long-term commitment to conservation.
