Grant Purpose:
To support work with families with children in early learning programs and to collaborate in supporting community members working towards academic and professional goals on a teacher career pathway.

Supported Programs:

Ho'āla Program:

• Provides information and awareness to parents
• Focus on benefits and importance of early childhood education
• Emphasis on healthy brain development
• Target age: Birth through age 5

Keiki Steps Program:

• Provides age-appropriate Hawaiian culture-based activities
• Target age: 0-5 years and parents
• Family-child interactive learning preschool
• Prepares keiki for kindergarten

Ka Lama Education Academy:

• Comprehensive system of credentialing, placement, and retention
• Focus on growing educators from within the community
• Community-based teacher development
• Highly qualified, culturally responsive teachers

Desired Outcomes:

• Normalize importance of Early Childhood Education
• Create impact in teacher workforce
• Develop homegrown, highly qualified teachers
• Build educators who understand community intelligence
