Purpose To promote continuing education by awarding scholarships for any course of study at institutions of higher education to individuals who demonstrate academic achievement, extracurricular involvement, financial need and desire. These institutions may include technical colleges, community colleges, junior colleges and four-year colleges/universities. Background Judy Jones Bosserman was a Mom and a hero. After having her two daughters, Stephanie and Jenny, she faced challenges as a single parent armed with bravery. Modeling hard work, she put others, especially her girls, before herself. Judy worked full time as a secretary to the Sheriff in Dinwiddie County, and on weekends, she could be found mowing grass, washing clothes, cleaning house, washing dishes, ironing Sunday dresses for church, and occasionally lobbing off the head of a poisonous snake that had slithered its way too close to the house. Money could get lean at the end of the month, but she always maintained providing meals and a home for her family. She never showed exhaustion or fear, having taught her daughters to be strong and self-reliant through her actions. She never boasted or bragged while staying beautiful inside and out. She loved to laugh and never missed a Jones Family Game Night. When diagnosed with cancer, she remained brave and never gave up. Her legacy lives on in her daughters. With this scholarship, a daughter raised by a brave woman will continue the legacy of strength.
