Joseph Durda Foundation Grant

The Joseph Durda Foundation, established in 1989, prioritizes charitable giving to alleviate poverty, support orphans, and assist disabled individuals. The Foundation seeks to empower underprivileged youth through education and invest in medical research, particularly cardiovascular health. Grants are directed towards organizations that positively impact communities, especially those where board members reside, while maintaining a focus on military veterans and their families. Note that individual grants and funding outside these priorities are not supported.

What We Fund
Joseph Durda established his Foundation in 1989. Prior to his passing in 1990, he wrote:
" The very basis of the human condition - its tragedy and its triumph - can be found in the entities this Foundation will be supporting. All the poverty that is lessened by a helping hand, all the hunger that is alleviated by the gift of food, all the service that makes heroes of the most humble among us....charity is the supreme virtue, and the great channel through which the mercy of God is passed on to mankind." -- Joseph Durda Sept. 1989
The grant making framework reflects the core priorities of the Foundation, supporting organizations that provide direct services in which the Foundation endeavors to create a positive impact. The following are high priority areas:
Charitable giving for the needy, poor and homeless... those needing a helping hand.Aid and assistance to orphans and underprivileged youth.Services for the disabled and those with disabling health issues.Educational support to our young people to help advance their lives.Invest in cardiovascular and other medical research.Support and assist our military veterans and their families.

Eligibility

A charitable, nonprofit entity, not a private foundation, with tax exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS code, and where appropriate, under Section 170 (c).
Charity legally incorporated in the state of Minnesota. Programs within the communities where our Board members live will be given highest priority. Program fits within one or more of the Foundation’s current funding prioritiesCardiovascular heart health  Disabled and debilitating diseases  Military veterans and their families  Scholarships for advanced education for underprivileged Children and families in need, the poor, hungry and/or homeless

Ineligibility

Please note that the Joseph Durda Foundation does not make the following types of grants. Any request for funding for these purposes will be denied.
Grants to individuals for any purposeGrants to purely religious organizations Political candidates, parties or political action committees (PACs)
Grants for the “arts & culture"Other foundations or organizations that redistribute resources to beneficiaries of their own selection, including United WayGrants for purposes outside of the foundation’s funding prioritiesGrants to non-Minnesota corporationsGrants that are not directly program related such as general operating funds.
