Overview

John Westbrook Award

Full name: John Westbrook Award for Contributions to Knowledge Translation

Purpose: Recognises outstanding contributions to knowledge translation and the dissemination and implementation of evidence.

Award basis: Instituted in recognition of the contribution of the late Dr John Westbrook and supported in part by a generous bequest he made to Campbell.

Award details: Winner receives up to US$1,000 toward costs of attending the annual Campbell conference, at which they will give a lecture on a subject to be agreed with the award nomination committee chairs.

About Dr. John Westbrook

Dr John D. Westbrook, PhD, was known nationally and internationally as an expert in knowledge translation (KT) and dissemination and utilization of disability research. Key roles included:

  • Managing researcher in the Disability and Rehabilitation Practice Area of American Institutes for Research (AIR)

  • Director of the Center on Knowledge Translation for Disability and Rehabilitation Research (KTDRR)

  • Director of the Center on Knowledge Translation for Employment Research (KTER)

  • Both centers were funded by the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR)

  • Co-chair of Campbell's Knowledge Translation and Implementation Coordinating Group

  • Member of Campbell's Steering Committee

  • Established the Disability Sub-group under the Education Coordinating Group in 2008

  • Campbell Board approved his Disability Coordinating Group application in May 2017
  • Dr Westbrook passed away in December 2016.

The fund supports the John Westbrook Award and may occasionally make awards to support production and use of reviews published by Campbell's Knowledge Translation and Implementation Coordinating Group.
