John Mitchell Nickerson Professorship of Political Science
Purpose: Support for an accomplished UMaine political science professor
Background: The John Mitchell Nickerson Professorship of Political Science was established with more than $2 million in gifts from John Nickerson, a University of Maine alumnus and professor emeritus at the University of Maine at Augusta who died in May 2013. The professorship was established to provide ongoing support and recognition for UMaine political science faculty. Nickerson earned his bachelor's degree in political science in 1959 at the University of Maine, a master's degree from Washington State University in 1966, and his Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Idaho in 1971.
