Junior League Of Birmingham Inc The Junior League of Birmingham is an organization of women whose mission is to advance women’s leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training. JLB Academic Scholarship Intellectual capital is one of Birmingham’s most valuable resources, and JLB feels it is important to invest in the development of tomorrow’s leaders. Originally founded in the 1930s in honor of Mrs. Harold L. Bissell, the Junior League of Birmingham’s Scholarship fund was re-established in 2012 to commemorate the League’s 90th anniversary. Each year since the JLB Academic Scholarship has funded deserving women to support the volunteer and leadership potential of Birmingham’s rising leaders. The scholarship was renamed from the JLB Memorial Scholarship to the JLB Academic Scholarship in 2014. The JLB Academic Scholarship is a non-renewable scholarship, distributed annually. The number of recipients varies each year based on available funding. Awards are given in amounts ranging from $1,000-$2,500.
