Janet Thomas Griffith Scholarship

Overview: Awarded to female Oklahoma resident tennis players who are committed to playing collegiate varsity tennis. This is a MERIT-BASED scholarship (not strictly need-based, but family income considered).

Geographic Scope: Oklahoma residents, may play collegiate tennis out of state

Focus Areas: Female collegiate varsity tennis players

Award Purpose: Support for female athletes committed to collegiate varsity tennis

Eligibility:

  • Female Oklahoma high school seniors or Oklahoma residents currently playing collegiate tennis

  • Must be committed to playing collegiate varsity tennis

  • Must be (or will be) an active part of the college varsity tennis team

  • Merit-based award considering academics, character, tennis ability, and leadership skills

  • Family income considered (not strictly need-based)

    • Award Details:

  • $2,500 per award (multiple scholarships available)

  • Funds sent to Bursar's Office once enrolled and collegiate tennis coach confirms recipient will be active on team

  • Previous recipients may reapply in subsequent years (no guarantee of approval)

    How to Apply

    Application Requirements

    Materials Required:

  • Parent/Guardian tax return (Pages 1 and 2 of 1040 only)

  • Official academic transcript

  • Two letters of recommendation from counselors, coaches, teachers, etc., relating to leadership, dedication, integrity, teamwork, etc.

  • Confirmation from college/university coach stating the OKTF applicant will be an active part of the tennis team

  • List of tennis history, extracurricular activities, community service, and job experience (if any)

  • Well-written paragraph: "How the OKTF Scholarship Will Benefit You and Your Family, Including Your Goals in Tennis"
