Overview

ASPB is a 501(c)(3) professional society devoted to advancing plant science research and education. It publishes three world-class journals and organizes conferences, and other educational activities that are key to the advancement of the science. Mission The American Society of Plant Biologists was founded in 1924 to promote the growth and development of plant biology, to encourage and publish research in plant biology, and to promote the interests, growth, and education of plant scientists in general. Over the decades the Society has evolved and expanded to provide a forum for molecular and cellular biology as well as to serve the basic interests of plant science. Early Career Award The Early Career Award, which was instituted by the Society in 2005, was renamed in 2023 to honor the contributions of Jane Silverthorne to the science of plant biology – and, in particular, her commitment to programs that nurture early career researchers. The award, which recognizes outstanding research by scientists at the beginnings of their careers is a monetary award made annually for exceptionally creative, independent contributions by an individual, whether or not a member of the Society, who is generally not more than seven years post-Ph.D. on January 1st of the year of the presentation.
