The Columbus Foundation In 1943, during the darkness of World War II, a group of passionate citizens, led by Columbus businessman Harrison M. Sayre, envisioned a way to improve the well-being of the community and the quality of life in central Ohio. With little more than this sound idea and faith, The Columbus Foundation was established. James Hantak Scholarship The fund supports a graduating senior of Columbus City Schools, Upper Arlington High School, or volunteer or athlete from Lancaster Special Olympics with special needs. Preference may be given to athletes or volunteers of Special Olympics. Award Amount: $5,000 per year for the duration of the program or degree. One “Jay Elliott Building for Tomorrow Scholarship” for $10,000 per year for the duration of the program or degree awarded to the candidate with the highest financial need and character scores. Note: the Jay Elliot Building for Tomorrow Scholarship is awarded in the Spring each year.Eligibility
