Overview

IRONAID COVID-19 Support Fund

Overview: The IRONMAN Foundation expanded its IRONAID program in 2020 to specifically focus on serving event communities in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic. The program provides grant funding to health-related nonprofit organizations with COVID-19 response programs.

Purpose: Support health-related nonprofit organizations addressing COVID-19 impacts and humanitarian needs in IRONMAN race communities and beyond.

Geographic Scope: Worldwide, with priority on IRONMAN, IRONMAN 70.3, and Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series host cities

Award Information:

  • Over $500,000 distributed in 2020 to 200 charitable organizations

  • Over $400,000 distributed through 2020 to 160 health-related organizations

  • Additional 70 organizations received support through Operation IRONAID Nutrition or Face Masks

  • Total impact: 230+ organizations, over 2.5 million people globally
  • Eligible Programs/Focus Areas:

  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) and supplies (ventilators, CT/x-ray machines, etc.)

  • Housing/homelessness support

  • Healthcare initiatives

  • Nutrition/food support

  • Mental health services

  • Domestic violence support

  • Care for seniors

  • Support for vulnerable individuals in quarantine

  • Organizations in areas with poor access to regular medical services

  • WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) initiatives

  • Research into SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19

  • Support for youth, homeless, seniors, veterans and vulnerable populations
  • Key Information:

  • Established March 27, 2020

  • Continued through 2021 and beyond

  • Multiple grant rounds distributed throughout the year

  • First IRONMAN Virtual Racing Pro Challenge: Foundation matched donations up to $10,000

  • TEAM IMF Athletes also contributed proceeds to support fund

  • In 2021, first round deadline was March 5 at 11:59 PM ET
  • Related Programs:

  • Operation IRONAID Face Masks: Partnership with Framebridge and Good360 to repurpose new and unused event shirts into non-sterile face masks. Over 40,000 masks distributed to organizations including Professional Firefighters of Arizona, City of San Francisco, Nashville Rescue Mission, and Elliot Respiratory Department in New Hampshire.
