International Ecology Institute The International Ecology Institute (ECI) is a non-profit organization of research ecologists dedicated to fostering ecological knowledge and awareness. It is funded by Inter-Research. The ECI strives to: further the exchange of information between marine, terrestrial and freshwater ecologists and to promote advancement in environmental research compensate for the lack of balance between analyzing and synthesizing research efforts and thus help to provide more feedback and critical overview for ecological sciences draw the attention of scientists, administrators, politicians and the general public to important issues resulting from ecological research assist in finding a long-term compromise between the increasingly destructive potential of modern industrial societies and the need for defining and applying measures to protect nature, commensurate with achieving and sustaining the highest possible living standard for human societies The major means of approaching these aims are, at present, are the two international prize. International Recognition of Professional Excellence (IRPE) Prize The International Ecology Institute (ECI) is inviting nominations of candidates for the ECI and IRPE Prize. Every two years the ECI selects two top performers in the field of ecology: the winner of the International Ecology Institute (ECI) Prize, which carries an endowment of € 6000, andthe winner of the International Recognition of Professional Excellence (IRPE) Prize, which carries an endowment of € 3000. The IRPE Prize honours a young ecologist (no older than 45 years, or within 15 years of having received their PhD) who has published uniquely independent, original and/or challenging research representing an important scientific breakthrough, and/or who is working under particularly challenging conditions. Nominations for the ECI and IRPE Prizes in Freshwater Ecology are now invited. Candidates must have agreed to the nomination and (for the ECI Prize) to the requirement to write a book.
