Indian Education Formula Grants The U.S. Department of Education programs funds the Indian Education Formula Grant (Title VI). It supports the efforts of school districts, Indian tribes and organizations, postsecondary institutions, and other groups to meet the unique educational and culturally related academic needs of American Indian and Alaska Native students. These efforts help them meet the same challenging state academic standards as all other students. Indian Education Formula Grants (Title VI) funds supplement the regular school program. For Indian children, programs are designed to: Supplement the regular school programStrengthen proficiency in the core content areas (Reading, Math, Science)Provide enrichment programs that would otherwise be unavailableSupport after-school programs, early childhood education, tutoring, and dropout preventionEligibility

The following entities are eligible under this program:certain local educational agencies (LEAs), as prescribed by section 6112(b) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965, as amended, (ESEA), including charter schools authorized as LEAs under State lawschools funded by the Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) of the U.S. Department of the Interior, as prescribed by section 6113(d) of the ESEAIndian Tribes and Indian Organizations (IO) under certain conditions, as prescribed by section 6112(c) of the ESEAIndian Community Based Organizations (ICBO), as prescribed by section 6112(d) of the ESEA. Consortia of two or more LEAs, Indian Tribes, IOs, and ICBOs are also eligible under certain circumstances, as prescribed by section 6112(a)(4) of the ESEAIneligibility
