We do not accept LOIs by email.The Imlay Foundation The Imlay Foundation is a private foundation formed by John P. Imlay Jr. in 1990 to support charitable organizations within Atlanta and Scotland. It is the product of a deep family commitment to helping our communities thrive economically, ecologically, educationally and culturally. Grant Program The Imlay Foundation philosophy extends from John Imlay’s venture capital background. The Foundation helps entrepreneurial and established community organizations expand their capabilities and reach. Our Community Focus The Imlay Foundation concentrates its efforts and resources largely in Metro Atlanta, Georgia and Hilton Head, SC. Given our primary regional focus, the Foundation only considers applications for funding outside these parameters if specifically requested by the board. Grant Amounts We look at all requests in proportion to programs, an organization’s budget and needs. First time grants are generally in the $10,000 – $15,000 range.

Eligibility

The Foundation supports organizations classified as tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and as public charities under section 509(a) of that code. Individuals and for-profit organizations are not eligible for funding.With few exceptions, The Imlay Foundation funds domestic projects and organizations in Metro Atlanta.Organizations must have two (2) full years of operations in Atlanta, GA with 501(c) 3 status.

Ineligibility

The Foundation generally does not make grants to an organization in consecutive years. We recommend you wait 24 months after receiving a grant to apply again.If your organization has been turned down for a grant, you should wait at least 12 months before resubmitting an LOI.Individuals and for-profit organizations are not eligible for funding.The Foundation supports a wide variety of issue areas and funding options. However, we typically do not support the following:Special events or sponsorshipsScholarships or tuitionIndividuals or support for salariesPlaces of worshipIndividual schools (private or public K-12, charter, or post-secondary)National organizations based outside of Metro AtlantaDirect medical research or drug trials
