About Us The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) manages fish and wildlife programs, ensures the health of Iowa’s forests and prairies, and provides recreational opportunities in Iowa’s state parks. Just as importantly, the DNR carries out state and federal laws that protect air, land and water through technical assistance, permitting and compliance programs. The DNR also encourages the enjoyment and stewardship of natural resources among Iowans through outreach and education. The DNR's Mission: To conserve and enhance our natural resources in cooperation with individuals and organizations to improve the quality of life in Iowa and ensure a legacy for future generations. Habitat Management Grants Program The Iowa DNR's Wildlife Diversity Program is making small grants available for habitat management projects directly contributing to wildlife diversity conservation in Iowa. Approved projects will be funded on a single-year basis but can be submitted for additional funding in subsequent years, though after 3 years points will be deducted during scoring.

Eligibility

Proposals will be accepted from any organization engaged in management for the benefit of wildlife conservation in Iowa.All DNR Partners including County Conservation Boards, Sportsman’s Groups, non-profit conservation organizations.Projects should be closely related to the goals of Iowa's Wildlife Action Plan. The maximum allowable funding ask per proposal is $7,500. No match is required for these funds.Project Eligibility:Projects to be considered will have management for wildlife diversity as their primary focus, some examples of which are: Reconstruction of non-game wildlife habitatRestoration of degraded non-game wildlife habitat.Purchase of important habitat management equipment.The money provided cannot be used for reimbursement on projects already completed before the grant money is available on or before May 15, 2026.If the project will cost a great deal more than what is requested in the grant application, the source of additional funding must be listed and secured. Projects with other funding sources pending will not score as highly and would not be notified whether it had been accepted prior to the additional funding being secured.Projects that have been funded for 3 or more years can continue to be submitted for funding but after three years of funding will automatically be docked points in scoring. This is to make sure a variety of projects are being funded.
