Grant Purpose

The SEF awards IDEA Grants to support innovative educational activities in Spotsy classrooms and school settings. These grants fund activities that engage, motivate, and nurture students and present promising ideas for achieving the division's curricular goals, strengthening students' personal development, and encouraging community links.

    Eligibility

  • Primary Applicants: Any Spotsylvania County Public School employee
  • Collaborative Applications: Parents, community members, and students may submit project proposals in collaboration with a SCPS employee
  • Grade Levels: K–12

    Award Amount

  • Up to $1,000 per proposal (smaller proposals encouraged)

    Key Requirements

  • Applicants and their Principals must review and acknowledge the Terms and Conditions outlined in the application
  • Complete application packages must be electronically received by announced deadline and time
  • All required components must be included and legible
  • Only complete application packages forwarded to review committee
  • Grants are competitive; selection based on merit
  • Grant funds dispersed directly to winning applicant's school
  • Any unexpended funds must be returned to SEF

Grant History

Since 2015, SEF has awarded over $82,500 across 84 IDEA Grants. In recent years, almost $17,000 was awarded across 12 IDEA Grants, impacting over 6,300 students.

Application Process

1. Timeline: Applications accepted once per year during Fall application period
2. Submission Method: Electronic submission via email to info@sef4education.org
3. Review Process:
- Complete application packages reviewed by Grants Committee
- Recommended grants presented to SEF Board of Directors for final approval
- Grant awards announced as quickly as possible to allow timely implementation

  • All components must be included and legible

    Application Requirements

    Each proposal judged on its merits with specific selection criteria covered in the grant application. Applicants must:
  • Clearly describe the innovative educational activity
  • Explain how the project aligns with curricular goals and student development
  • Demonstrate how the activity will engage and motivate students
  • Show connection to community links where applicable
  • Indicate grade level and number of students impacted
