Idaho Veteran Directed Care Program (VDC)

Geographic Scope: North Idaho Counties of Benewah, Bonner, Boundary, Kootenai, Latah, and Shoshone (covers just over 5.129 million acres)

Program Description

The Veteran Directed Care Program pays for qualified Veterans to receive services and support to help them maintain independence in their own homes.

    Eligibility

  • Must be a Veteran
  • Must be determined eligible through a Geriatric Extended Care Assessment (GEC) administered by a nurse at the VA Medical Clinic
  • Must have assessed care needs

    What the Program Provides

  • Funding for Personal Care Aide (PCA) hours
  • Authorized services and supports
  • Budget determination based on individual assessment
  • Savings account feature for unused budget funds (funds held for authorized purchases; unused funds returned to VA at end of authorization period)
  • Reassessment every 6 or 12 months
