Program Focus: Undergraduate education support for military service members and their dependents

The Hunt Heroes Foundation Scholarship is an annual program that awards funds to deserving students seeking ongoing educational opportunities. Recent years have awarded:

• 2023: $50,000 total (18 recipients)
• 2022: $50,000 total (18 recipients)
• 2021: $40,000 total (15 recipients)
• 2020: $30,000 (prior year)

Award Structure

Awards typically range from $1,000 to $5,000 per recipient. For example, in 2022 the distribution was:

• Five $5,000 awards
• Eight $2,500 awards
• Five $1,000 awards

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must be:

• A high school senior or high school graduate, OR
• A current post-secondary undergraduate at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, vocational school, or trade school, OR
• Planning to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited institution for the entire upcoming academic year

Qualified applicants must be one of:

• An active-duty Service Member, National Guard member, or Reservist of one of the five branches of the United States Armed Services (Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard) with current military identification, OR
• A dependent of a Service Member (spouse or child) prepared to provide documentation of dependent status

Dependent Definition: Natural and legally adopted children or stepchildren living in the service member's household or primarily supported by the service member.

Residency: Candidates do not have to be residents of an HMC community to apply.

Selection Criteria

Scholarship recipients are selected based on:

• Commitment to community involvement
• Demonstrated leadership
• Participation in school and community activities
• Work experience
• Statement of goals and aspirations
• Unusual personal or family circumstances
• Outside appraisal
• Two essays (300 words or less each) responding to specific questions

   • Essay 1: "How has being a part of the military or part of a military family affected your life?"
   • Essay 2: "What would you like to change in your community, and how would you do it?"

   • Military ID (for active-duty service members)
   • For dependents, provide ONE of the following:
   • Birth certificate
   • Custody or guardianship order from a court with authority
   • Marriage certificate

   • Statement of goals and aspirations
   • Outside appraisal (letter of recommendation)
