Howard T. Collins Memorial Scholarship Program

Purpose: Awards scholarships to Eden Housing residents pursuing higher education and career advancement goals.

Background: Created to honor Howard T. Collins, a former dedicated member of the Eden Housing Board of Directors who believed in education and opportunity for all.

Program History:

Inception: 1993

As of 2020 (28th annual): Nearly 500 scholarships awarded totaling over $650,000

2018: 52 scholarships awarded

2020: 35 scholarships awarded ($96,000-$100,000 total)

Geographic Scope: California, serving Eden Housing residents statewide (from Petaluma to San Ysidro)

Eligibility:

Current residents of a property managed by Eden Housing Management, Inc.

Enrolled in a course of study or pursuing educational/academic and/or career advancement/vocational goals

Attending universities, California State Universities, or community colleges

Focus Areas: Educational advancement, higher education support, first-generation college students

Focus on Impact: When Eden invests in residents' higher education dreams, families become more stable, long-term career prospects improve, and communities thrive. Many recipients are first in their families to pursue higher education.
