Hortense B. Perry Scholarship

Funder: The Hortense B. Perry Foundation in partnership with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® Eta Omega Chapter

Geographic Scope: Louisville, Kentucky metropolitan area

Eligibility:

Female high school graduates

Plan to enter college in the Fall

Reside in the Louisville, Kentucky metropolitan area

Award Categories:
Applicants may choose one of two scholarship categories:
1. Hortense B. Perry Scholarship
2. HBCU Scholarship (applicants selected for HBCU scholarship who do not attend an HBCU will not receive the award)

Selection Process:
Each application is reviewed by a committee and receives a weighted score based on applicant responses.

How to Apply

Application Process

Deadline: Electronic applications must be submitted by March 7

Submission Format: Electronic applications only (typed into form, printed and signed, then submitted electronically)

Required Documents:
1. Official High School Transcript
2. Recent High School Photo (attach to application, no larger than 3x5; headshot 300+ dpi; jpg or PDF format)
3. 2 letters of recommendation (one must be from a teacher in your school)
4. Personal narrative (250 word maximum, typed) - gives the scholarship committee a sense of you as an individual

Mother's name, phone, place of employment, occupation

Father's name, phone, place of employment, occupation

Number of dependent children (including applicant)

High school name and phone number

School counselor name

Overall GPA

ACT/SAT score

College you plan to attend

Honors, awards, scholastic achievements, scholarships

Extra-curricular activities (school, community, church)

Leadership positions held

Selection of scholarship category (Hortense B. Perry Scholarship or HBCU Scholarship)
