Overview

Healthcare Foundation of Wilson Healthcare Foundation of Wilson (HFW) was established on February 28, 2014 when Wilson Medical Center was purchased and then subsequently managed and operated by Duke LifePoint Healthcare. HFW became the health legacy charitable foundation established to support the health and wellness of our community through grantmaking. Joining a growing number of conversion foundations, HFW is responsible for managing the assets associated with the former nonprofit hospital. The assets received, as well as prior hospital reserves, were combined to establish Healthcare Foundation of Wilson as an organization that honors generations of dedication and generosity by strategically investing the funds back into the community. As good stewards of the Foundation’s assets, we continually invest back into Wilson through impactful grantmaking and nonprofit capacity building efforts, with the objective of improving health and wellness for all. Responsive Grant Healthcare Foundation of Wilson (HFW) seeks proposals from organizations located in Wilson, NC with a desire to provide programming and services related to our focus areas. Eligibility

Organizations applying for funding must be tax-exempt from 501(c)(3) nonprofits, government institutions or schools in the greater Wilson community, whose funds will be directed toward the enhancement of the healthcare outcomes of the Wilson community501(c)(3) nonprofits must be prepared to provide a copy of the determination letter from the Internal Revenue Service indicating the tax-exempt status.The organization must have filed a 990 or 990-N (e-Postcard) each year. Documentation will be requested.Governmental agencies must submit the organization’s Employer Identification Number.Qualifying organizations must have at least three years of successful operations before a grant can be considered.

Ineligibility

Responsive grants cannot be used for:Capital campaigns and fund drives.Capital projects such as brick and mortar projects, including construction, purchasing land and renovation projects.Purchasing vehicles.Grants to individuals, dinners, event sponsorship, fundraising or endowments.Retirement of debt or any expenses previously incurred.Funding more than 25% of salaries/stipends for program operations.Funding of deficient operational shortfalls or funding that substitutes existing funding or debt relief.Funds that would be considered a “pass through” to another organization.Funding more than 10% of the grant budget for incentives/promotional items.Lobbying, activities supporting political candidates, or voter registration drives.Organizations with a substantial purpose of influencing any political, legislative, or regulatory cause.Broad, unfocused requests.Organizations that have a grant request that exceeds their total assets.Organizations that discriminate or restrict citizens from receiving program resources because of race, ethnicity, color, culture, language, gender, sexual orientation, physical or mental disability, socioeconomic status, or religion.Individual K-12 schools or organizations that operate within an individual school. We will consider school grants at the district level.Scholarships.Food, unless it supports a learning experience. We will only fund up to 5% of the overall grant request for this budget item.Programs/budget items that are a duplication of previously funded projects (e.g. gym equipment, food for food pantries).
