Overview

HFC Caregiver Respite Program - In-Home Respite Grant

Purpose: Cover the cost of professional, in-home care so caregivers can take time for themselves while ensuring quality care for their loved one with dementia.

Award Details:

  • Type: 100 hours total of respite care

  • Duration: Must be used within 3 months of being awarded

  • Format: Professional in-home care only (NO CASH VALUE - cash awards cannot be issued in lieu of in-home care)

  • Provider: HFC works with a preferred partner to coordinate in-home care
  • Geographic Scope:

  • United States and Canada

  • Puerto Rico and other U.S. territories are not currently eligible
  • Eligibility Requirements - Must answer YES to ALL:

  • Person being cared for has been professionally diagnosed with: Alzheimer's disease, frontotemporal dementia (FTD), Lewy body dementia (LBD), vascular dementia, mixed dementia, other dementias, or Parkinson's related dementia

  • Person being cared for currently lives at home with applicant

  • Applicant is facing financial and emotional hardships due to challenges of caregiving

  • Applicant resides in the United States or Canada
  • Reapplication Policy:

  • Only one application per person accepted quarterly (must wait at least 3 months between applications)

  • Maximum of 3 awards can be issued to same recipient within 18 months

  • Reapplying does not guarantee a new grant or same level of award as previously received
  • Important Notes:

  • If care cannot be provided by a licensed provider within 60 days of award, grant becomes void

  • Applicants are not guaranteed three grants or any specific level within 18-month period

    Application Process

    Steps:
    1. Verify you can answer YES to all eligibility requirements
    2. Check your last submission date to ensure at least 3 months have passed since last application (if reapplying)
    3. Submit application through HFC's online portal ("Apply now" link available on wearehfc.org/care-grants/)

    Required Information:

  • Confirmation that person being cared for has been professionally diagnosed with qualifying dementia condition

  • Confirmation person is currently living at home with applicant

  • Documentation of financial and emotional hardships related to caregiving

  • Proof of residency in United States or Canada

  • Preferred respite care arrangement (in-home care coordination through HFC's preferred partner)
  • Additional Notes:

  • No specific narrative questions or LOI requirements detailed on website

  • Application designed to be simple and straightforward

  • HFC will coordinate with preferred partner for care provision upon approval
