Overview
Moonshot Microgrants invite the whole Hendricks County community to join the Community Foundation's $1 Million Moonshot Grant journey. Whether or not an organization plans to apply for the Moonshot Grant itself, it can apply for a microgrant for a project or program that sparks community engagement and excitement around the Moonshot, is space-themed, and takes place in and for Hendricks County, Indiana.
Grants range from $250 to $2,500 per project; HCCF may consider larger requests, and applicants seeking more than $2,500 should contact the Program Associate before applying. Fully funded or no-cost space-themed projects may instead apply for Approved Program status, which brings official recognition as a Moonshot Space Partner, a digital badge and promotion through HCCF channels, without additional funding.
Eligible applicants: 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, government entities (including parks and trails), coalitions or collaborative groups, and non-501(c)(3) organizations with a charitable program open to the community.
How to Apply
Applications are open October 20, 2026 through September 7, 2027 in HCCF's online grant portal. Applications are reviewed monthly on the first Tuesday of the month and awarded on the second Tuesday. A sample PDF of the application is available to preview; only portal submissions are accepted.
Instead of a traditional report, grantees submit a paragraph on how the money was used and photos from the project, generally a month after the last dollars are spent. All funds should be spent by December 1, 2027 and reports are due by December 31, 2027.
