Summary

The Help Our Neighbors Grant Program, initiated by the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County, provides vital emergency assistance to individuals and families in need. Grants range from $500 to $1,000, aimed at covering essential expenses like rent, utilities, and food. To qualify, organizations must operate in Anne Arundel County and possess a 501(c)(3) designation. The program emphasizes addressing urgent financial needs to help maintain independence.

Overview

The Help Our Neighbors Fund was created in 2008 in response to significant increases in calls for urgent financial assistance for individuals and families. Grants range from a minimum of $500 to a maximum of $1,000. The funds should provide emergency assistance in paying for rent, car repair, utilities, medicine, food and other basic necessities. Disbursements from the grant should be made directly to the vendor providing the service or fulfilling the emergency need (i.e. utility company, landlord, pharmacy, grocery gift card) unless exceptional circumstances apply. The severity and urgency of the need to be addressed and the impact of the financial support on an individual's or family's ability to remain independent should be the determining consideration in the disbursement of funds. An organization may apply for a subsequent grant after sufficient documentation of disbursements made from a previous grant.
