Purpose: This scholarship is presented to high school students who have demonstrated academic achievement and a commitment to pursuing an education and career in the field of nursing.

Background

This award is presented in honor and memory of Helen Strobl, the first Executive Director of Visiting Nurse Service & Hospice of Suffolk. Helen Strobl was:
• A Baccalaureate and Masters nursing graduate
• A strong proponent of higher education for all nurses
• Joined VNSHS as Supervisor of Nurses and Director in 1962
• Led the organization through a period of growth and change until her retirement in 1980
