Healthy Homes Asthma Program

Focus Areas:

  • What the Program Includes:

  • Repairing leaking roofs, windows, and downspouts

  • Installing kitchen and bathroom exhausts

  • Sealing water and pest infiltration points

  • Repairing general safety hazards (damaged stairs, GFCI outlets, CO detectors)

  • Resident education on environmental hazards and green cleaning techniques

  • Community and household education

  • Technical assistance and workforce development

  • Healthy Home Assessments with Community Health Workers (CHWs)
  • Healthy Home Assessments Include:

  • Home visit to discuss environmental hazards (asthma/allergy triggers, lead paint, mold, harmful chemicals)

  • Personalized advice on reducing risks

  • Green cleaning kits

  • Water and air filters

  • Educational materials

  • Connection to other housing support programs

  • Renter or homeowner in Allegheny County

  • Household annual income (pre-tax) within limits:

    - 6 people: $99,600
    - 7 people: $106,500
    - 8 people: $113,350
  • Children under 18 living in home

  • Someone with asthma or other respiratory illness in home

  • Priority given to households with children who have asthma
  • Funding Source: HUD Healthy Homes Production Grant from Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)'s Office of Lead Hazard Control and Healthy Homes (OLHCHH)
