Healthy Communities Initiative Grant

The Healthy Communities Initiative Grant, offered by the Pallottine Foundation of Buckhannon, aims to support nonprofit organizations in West Virginia. Established to promote physical, emotional, and spiritual health, the initiative funds programs addressing community needs such as health and wellness, capacity building, and substance use disorder. Nonprofits are encouraged to align their requests with the Foundation's mission and focus areas, ensuring transformative change and improved community outcomes.

NOTE: To ensure program requests are appropriately tailored to our geographic region, statewide nonprofit organizations are strongly encouraged to contact a Foundation Program Officer prior to submitting an application.
Background
The work of the Pallottine Missionary Sisters, which began in Buckhannon in 1921 with the formation of St. Joseph’s Hospital, continues through the work of the Pallottine Foundation of Buckhannon, West Virginia. The Sisters, through their sponsorship of the Foundation, will continue their legacy of care and outreach to the community they have served for so long and with such dedication for many years to come.
Established in 2015, the vision of the Pallottine Foundation of Buckhannon states that communities in Buckhannon, West Virginia and surrounding areas will maintain healthy lives – physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
The Healthy Communities Initiative provides funding and support to nonprofit organizations administering health-related programming to address the behavioral, emotional, physical, social, and spiritual needs of the community. The initiative also supports projects that improve the nonprofit’s internal capacity to work effectively and develop strong finances, leadership, and infrastructure.

Eligibility

An organization applying for funding under the Healthy Communities Initiative must be a nonprofit tax-exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
The grant request must be for a program, project, or service that is compatible with the Mission, Vision, Values, and Focus Areas of the Pallottine Foundation of Buckhannon (PFB).
The applying organization must support clients in the region served by the Foundation, which covers Barbour, Lewis, Randolph, Upshur, and Webster counties in West Virginia.

Ineligibility

Generally, the Foundation does not fund grants for:individuals, endowments, academic scholarships, indirect costs, and major capital projects. The Foundation may consider or exclude expenses on a case-by-case basis.
